PopTech 2011 people's pick: Capt. Wayne Porter and Col. Mark Mykleby

We recently announced the first group of speakers who will be on stage at PopTech this year, ranging from human rights activists to artists to historians. We asked a handful of people who will be heading up to Camden for this year’s conference which presenter they’re most eager to check out and why. We’ll be highlighting these attendees’ responses over the next few weeks.

I’m excited for Capt. Wayne Porter and Col. Mark Mykleby’s presentation at PopTech. In response to the presented fact that more highly educated nations are impacted less by catastrophe than poorly educated nations, I wrote a blog post at a conference once that posed the possibility of an army whose primary strategy was pre-emptive action and whose primary tactic was education. I’ve been interested to hear of social scientists being enlisted to help the military better collaborate with local cultures. I see great opportunity for the evolution of strategies and tactics to embody a broader definition and application of peacekeeping.
