Just off the heels of the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York City this week, we were excited to come upon Shapeways. They’re a community-driven 3D printing e-commerce company reminiscent of Ponoko — think Etsy meeting RepRap. In simple terms: you design something, list it for sale on their site, and then, when its ordered, it’s fabricated, on demand, by one of their 3D printers. Typically, their stuff is made out of plastic (since that’s the material 3D printers typically use) but they’ve recently started to work with ceramics. A few of our favorites include:
