This week in PopTech: Female fixers, smelly blocks and financial bubbles

There's always something brewing in the PopTech community. From the world-changing people, projects and ideas in our network, a handful of this week's highlights follows.

We’re enormously proud that 5 of the 9 women “Fixers” featured in Elle Magazine are from our Social Innovation Fellows network! They include Nina Dudnik (2010 Social Innovation Fellow), Founder and CEO of seedinglabs.org; Deb Levine (2009 Social Innovation Fellow), Founder/Executive Director of Internet Sexuality Information Service (ISIS); Laura Stachel (2010 Social Innovation Fellow), CoFounder of Women’s Emergency Communication and Reliable Electricity (WE CARE Solar); Leila Janah (2010 Social Innovation Fellow), Founder of Samasource; and Juliana Rotich, Cofounder/Executive Director of Ushahidi, an organization with whom we have been long affilitiated through previous Fellows and collaborations.

Yesterday we tuned into GE’s live Ecoimagination: Ask Anything, an online conversation with leading innovators that included Wired editor-in-chief Chris Anderson (PopTech 2006), Mesh expert Lisa Gansky (PopTech 2010) and inventor Saul Griffith (PopTech 2008).

Take a tour of the smelliest block in New York with the expert nose of Chandler Burr (PopTech 2008).

OK Go (PopTech 2010) performed 180 shows last year, hence their new live album, 180/365. The album even includes a track from their show in Maine and is streaming in its entirety on Mashable.

Rice geneticist Pamela Ronald (PopTech 2008), a researcher who modifies crops to feed the hungry and cut pesticide use was profiled in the Utne Reader.

Author Jonah Lehrer (PopTech 2009) explores how and why our brains are built to create financial bubbles.
