Brian Hare
Science and Public Leadership Fellow 2010

Assistant Professor, Evolutionary Anthropology and Center for Cognitive Neuroscience, Duke University
Brian Hare seeks to identify which features of our social problem-solving abilities have evolved since humans, bonobos and chimpanzees shared a common ancestor. His lab also compares the psychology of primates (notably lemurs) and non-primates (dogs) to infer how human-like social skills evolved. Supported by the Alexander Humboldt Foundation, European Research Council and NSF awards, and published in Science, Brian’s innovative research highlights the tremendous potential for learning from nonhumans about everything from peacemaking to economics.
