Ecomaterials Innovation Lab

Helen Storey is an artist and designer based in London. She is a senior research fellow and professor of Fashion and Science at the London College of Fashion and co-director of the Fashion Science Centre. To explore her interests in science, she created Primitive Streak in 1997, a collection of textiles and dress that take the viewer through the first 1,000 hours of human life, from fertilization to the recognizable human form. This double award-winning project has toured in 7 countries and reached over 5 million people. Storey also established the Helen Storey Foundation in 1997, a not-for-profit arts organization promoting creativity and innovation. The foundation has created many projects including “Wonderland,” in 2008, which straddles the junction between art, fashion and science. Storey was awarded Honorary Professorships at Heriot Watt University and King’s College London in 2001 and 2003 respectively and was visiting professor of Material Chemistry at Sheffield University in 2008. She was also awarded the MBE for services to the Arts in June 2009.
