Iain D. Couzin
Science Fellow 2011
Assistant Professor, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Princeton University
Iain Couzin aims to reveal the fundamental principles that underlie evolved collective behavior. His research includes the study of a wide range of biological systems, from brain tumors to insect swarms, fish schools to human crowds. He has received the Searle Scholar Award and Popular Science’s Brilliant 10 award, and has published in Nature, Science, and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Through his work on swarm behavior, Iain is allowing us to better understand how people, animals and even diseases manage to accomplish things in groups that they never could as individuals.
