Michael Pollan
PopTech 2009
For twenty years, Michael Pollan has written eloquently about the intersection between human and natural worlds, and with bestselling, genre-busting results. He is the author, most recently, of In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto. His previous book, The Omnivore’s Dilemma, was named one of the ten best books of 2006 by The New York Times and The Washington Post, and won the California Book Award and the James Beard Award for best food writing, among many other honors. His 2001 book The Botany of Desire: A Plant’s-Eye View of the World spent untold weeks on The New York Times bestseller list. His next book, Food Rules: An Eater’s Manual, will be published in December 2009.
Pollan’s provocative articles appear regularly in The New York Times Magazine, and he is also a sought-after contributor to Harper’s (where he served for many years as executive editor), Mother Jones, Gourmet, Vogue, Travel + Leisure, Gardens Illustrated, and House & Garden.
Besides lecturing far and wide on the larger ethical and political questions embedded in our diets, Pollan also serves as the John S. and James L. Knight Professor at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism.
