Erik Hersman asks us to shed outdated notions of Africa as a unified place plagued by starvation and war. Between mobile phone innovations like M-PESA, social networking like MXit and entrepreneurial spaces like Maker Faire Africa, Hersman sees innovation and entrepreneurship exploding within some of Africa’s—and the world’s—fastest growing economies.

Fantastic disposition of Africa as the nexus of business in the 21st century. I am a Professor of Entrepreneurship currently on a Fulbright Fellowship at Texas A&M University and I do know the momentum availble in Kenya ,for example, for Business. We have a critical mass of educated youth( just like India) sitting under economic adversity and so ready to take off the ‘Steve Jobs’ style!

Well done!
Erik, ‘Umemulika Afrika’ if i may corruptly translate, it is swahili for you have ‘beamed’ Africa. You have layed the ‘WHITE PAPER’ at nose, eyes, ears & arms length. I have run an agency representing an American Corporate in East Africa for the last fourteen years, some innovation ideas have been generated as a way of ‘beating’ expensive & non adaptive developed world technologies.
