2009 PopTech Fellow James O’Brien assembled a staff of like-minded educators to create BCAM – Brooklyn Community Arts & Media High School. The fledgling educational-innovation tank combines performance-based academics and professional training in media and arts to prepare teenagers for success in the 21st century.

I get excited through efforts and your ownbecause you both challenge traditional paradigms in education to make real differences. Hey James, I’m also with the EVOKE project. What you are doing is really amazing. I love hearing about custom, innovative schools like yours because I really believe in educational choices. Not every students has the same strengths and can fit into the same mold.

This is incredibly inspiring. I want to participate in the 2011 Evoke, shadow you, and try to apply what you’ve learned to elementary schools as well.

From one educator to another…..So proud of you and what you are doing for high school education in Brooklyn. You clearly have the knowledge, skills and compassion for making a difference in the lives of your students as well as surrounding yourself with a like minded, energitic faculty. Continued success.
This principal is very unscrupulous and I observed him treat staff and students poorly at BCAM. It is sad that a discriminatory and unprofessional adult, such as this, would have access to and influence over youth.
