Rebecca Fry

Science and Public Leadership Fellow 2010

Assistant Professor, Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Gillings School of Global Public Health, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill

Rebecca Fry studies how prenatal exposure to environmental contaminants such as toxic metals can cause long lasting effects on human health. With a focus on genome-wide effects of such exposures and epigenetic alterations, her research will enable the identification of gene and epigenetic biomarkers of exposure and disease. Rebecca is also developing a “Body on a Chip” device to speed toxicity testing. She aims to simultaneously test toxicity responses of numerous human cell types from areas of the body particularly susceptible to cancer while miniaturizing the scale of testing. With funding from the National Institutes of Health, Rebecca is dedicated to solving major global public health issues.
