A Special Community

Pop!Tech is the unique expression of a community of volunteers and participants that stretches from Camden, Maine, to points around the world.

Since its earliest days more than ten years ago, Pop!Tech has grown almost entirely through the contributions of a community of volunteers who donate their time, expertise and energy to help convene this unique gathering. Pop!Tech is a true labor of love: the speakers and most of the organizers are unpaid, and the organization itself is a not-for-profit.

Pop!Tech is anchored in the values of Camden, Maine, a distinctive small community with a strong sense of civic discourse, curiosity, social responsibility and a desire to take action.

Although Pop!Tech’s participants come from around the world, they too find common cause with these values. The conference works to integrate itself into the life of its host community – for example, the entire event is broadcast, free-of-charge, on closed-circuit television to local communities.
