Who goes to PopTech?

Your fellow participants are a diverse group from a variety of backgrounds — technology, design, science, business, academia, arts, social entrepreneurship, medicine, foundations, non-profits, for-profits, you name it. They all share a passion for new ideas.

When should I arrive?

We encourage you to arrive early on Wednesday, October 31. Registration will be located in Hedges Hall at Point Lookout in Northport, Maine. We will be open from 3:30-8:30 PM. This is where you can pick up your badge, gift bag, and of course ask any questions. Stroll around the Point Lookout campus or take an energizing hike of one of the trails located on the property. We will be gathering for dinner in the Pavilion just adjacent to Hedges Hall at 630 PM. Please note: Your badge is required to enter the opening dinner — please don’t forget it!

What should I wear?

The PopTech vibe is creative and casual. Dress comfortably and pack outdoor attire to take full advantage of the outdoor spaces at Point Lookout. There is no need for suits, ties and high heels – leave those items at home. We suggest you pack comfortable shoes for walking and hiking, a jacket and fleece to keep you warm. A scarf, hat and lightweight gloves wouldn’t hurt either. Fall temperatures vary widely in Midcoast Maine, so be sure to check for the latest weather updates and pack accordingly. It is also a good idea to pack an umbrella, as rain can be common this time of year.

Where should I eat?

We will be hosting community dinners at Point Lookout on Wednesday and Friday nights, as well as lunches on Thursday and Friday. Thursday night participants are on their own for dinner. There are a number of amazing restaurant choices in the area that range from pubs to James Beard Award-winning restaurants. Restaurants that require advance reservations include Primo in Rockland and Nina June in Rockport, otherwise access to tables is pretty easy. Please check in at Registration for a list of area restaurants in Lincolnville, Camden, Rockport and Rockland. Most inns and small hotels include breakfast. If you are staying at Point Lookout, it might be fun to provision your cabin for breakfast and snacks – a quick stop at Hannafords Supermarket or French and Brawn in Camden on your way to Point Lookout will allow you to stock up. The closest option to Point Lookout is Wentworth Family Grocery, about 5 minutes away.
