Mooke, Martha

Martha Mooke

Acclaimed for her electrifying performances and compositions, pioneering electro-acoustic violist/composer, Martha Mooke transcends musical boundaries, synthesizing her classical training with extended techniques, electronics and improvisation.

Mooke, a Yamaha Artist in demand for her innovative educational programs, is a leading clinician on electric and progressive string playing, improvisation and cultivating creative expression.

Mooke is founder and Artistic Director of the electro-acoustic Scorchio Quartet, featured on David Bowie’s Heathen CD. A frequent collaborator of Philip Glass, she has performed with Barbra Streisand, David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, Damon Albarn (Blur/Gorillaz), Andrea Bocelli, Elton John, Patti Smith, Tony Bennett, Iggy Pop, Trey Anastasio, Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson and many others.

Mooke’s genre-defying recordings, Enharmonic Vision and Bowing’s Cafe Mars with guitarist Randolph Hudson, have attracted wide critical acclaim. Her latest CD, No Ordinary Window, is produced by multi Grammy winner Cynthia Daniels. She is a recipient of the prestigious ASCAP Concert Music Award for creating ASCAP’s new music showcase THRU THE WALLS featuring composer/performers whose work defies categorization. Mooke, also on the Artist Roster of Eventide and Thomastik-Infeld Strings, is a member of the Recording Academy’s Grammy Career Day committee, and on the Advisory Board of Composers Now.
